30 Day Challenge: The Perfect Man?

4. Describe your ideal partner

Two romantic questions back to back. My self-esteem has never been higher.

But seriously, this is actually kind of hard because one thing I’ve learned over the years is that what I want in a partner changes as I grow up. As a fairly mature individual, my ideal man is kind of hard to narrow down to a list of traits but for the benefit of this prompt, I’m going to try.

Let’s start with the easy stuff, shall we? Physical attributes.

According to a study mentioned in this article by Forbes, it only takes 7 seconds to make a first impression. In that short time, there are four things I immediately notice about a man: eyes, smile, height, and shoulders. A man who does not have kind eyes or a kind smile is pretty much an immediate no for me. I also love tall men. They don’t have to be basketball players but I’d rather them be significantly taller than my 5’5. I also really really really love broad shoulders. A man’s shoulders and arms are probably the sexiest part of their bodies, in my opinion.

Those are really the only things I usually find in common with all of the men to whom I’ve been attracted. I have preferences though, of course. I prefer dark hair and light eyes. I like scruff but full-on-bears aren’t really my cup of tea. I prefer older men, usually at least 3 or more years older than I am. I also prefer bigger men but that has more to do with me being a plus sized girl and needing to not feel like I’m going to break them. Haha.

As for the harder stuff, the personality stuff… well, that’s a bit more complicated. I want someone who has a similar sense of humor because I can be pretty offensive to some people. I’m not a very religious person and I’d rather not be forced to change that unless I want to change. I love books and movies and I really love to learn and a big dating deal breaker is if he doesn’t understand that love or mocks me for it. Ideally, he’d have a similar passion for those things so we could talk about them and share our opinions, even if they’re different ones. I’m a cat person and I’d prefer him to be as well. I want to travel one day and I’ve love if he’d do it with me.

I guess, in the end, it comes down to one thing though: my ideal man needs to accept me and all my quirks. A similar personality wouldn’t hurt but not TOO similar. And hey, if he happens to look like Dylan O’Brien or Brad Pitt during the Jennifer Aniston days, I’m not going to complain.

30 Day Challenge: Does True Love Exist?

3. Before meeting “The One,” the average woman will “kiss 15 men, enjoy two long-term relationships, have her heart broken twice…suffer four disaster dates, be stood up once, have been in love twice, lived with one ex-partner and had four one night stands.” According to this study, how close are you to finding “The One”?
Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/howaboutthat/10545810/Average-woman-will-kiss-15-men-and-be-heartbroken-twice-before-meeting-The-One-study-reveals.html

So, I physically hate this prompt and it’s entirely because my love life is so atrociously nonexistent that it just reminds me that I need to start buying cats now.

By these standards, I’m so far from meeting “the one” that I may be actively regressing in romantic life.

But that brings me to another, important question: Does “the one” really exist? Is there really someone so perfectly matched out there in the world for everyone that we’re just wading through life, trying to find them?

Knowing my luck, my perfect match is actually in another country where English doesn’t even register on the radar of spoken languages.

This idea that there’s someone perfectly made for everyone brings in a whole other idea of ‘who decides the matches?’ which brings up the topic of religion and fate and deities, etc. Basically, ‘the one’ is a pretty damn loaded concept.

I don’t know if I believe in true love. I don’t know if I believe there is one person in the world who is perfect for me. So much of modern media conditions us to be searching for this ideal partner, this perfect companion, that we forget to work on ourselves and our own lives unless it coincides with meeting/dating/marrying this perfect other.

I just know that I want to be happy in my life. If that means marrying someone, maybe having kids, then let’s do it. But if it means having a career I’ve dreamed about and a house full of cats, I’m cool with that too. I just want to be happy.

Maybe ‘the one’ for me is really just the best version of myself. And really, that sounds like a match made in destiny if I’ve ever heard one.

30 Day Challenge: Guilty Pleasures

2. Guilty pleasures: we all have them. What are yours?

First of all, now that I know how much the word ‘pleasure’ freaks Maggie out, I’m going to use it to excess in this post. Not really. It’s a bit of a weird word. I don’t really like the way it sounds and I really really hate it when someone use it to describe anything sexual because creepy.

Now, on to the good stuff. The term ‘guilty pleasure’ implies embarrassment and I’m not really embarrassed by any of these.

1. One Direction. I am a 23 year old woman who would do incredibly filthy things to those (thankfully) legal boys. Their music is so catchy and their new album is amazing. They wrote all of songs and it’s just so beautiful. Plus, they are filthy, hilarious, adorable little balls of perfection.

2. Teen Lit/Chick Lit. First of all, I hate that certain subsets of literature are considered strictly for one age group or one gender. Do I think 12 year olds should be reading 50 shades of Grey? No. Honestly, NO ONE should be reading 50 Shades of Grey because there’s better written porn on the internet for free. However, I don’t think people should be persecuted for what they enjoy. I get so many looks when I’m reading Percy Jackson in public because I’m ‘too old’ to be reading a ‘kids’ book.’ Whatever. I like the book. I’m going to read it. I also enjoy Sarah Dessen as well as modern adaptations of my favorite classic novels (I can’t tell you how many Pride and Prejudice-influenced stories I own). I love the cheesiness. I love how easy to read they are and how fun the can be. Sure, I also love classics but sometimes you just need something light and fun to read.

3. Red Velvet anything. If it’s Red Velvet, I’ll eat/drink/smell it. I can’t help it, I’m addicted.

4. Fanfiction. Okay, I lied. I’m a little embarrassed about this one. I was introduced to it back in middle school with Harry Potter and it’s just progressed. I have friends who also read it. I even have friends who write it (and they’re pretty amazing too). But yeah, I read fanfic. It’s a problem.

5. Disney Channel Movies. Specifically, Disney Channel Musicals. I love all musicals but the super cheesy, ridiculous ones they put on Disney Channel just GET TO ME. I’ve seen Lemonade Mouth too many times. High School Musical still makes me cry (that damn Troy/Gabriella break up song man. Fuck that shit.) I even tortured myself with Teen Beach Movie. That one wasn’t so great but I did it.

So there’s five of my guilty pleasures. There’s probably more numerically as well as more embarrassing ones. I hope I haven’t scarred you for life.

30 Day Challenge: Embarrassing Clothing

Post a picture of the most embarrassing item of clothing you own and explain its origins in your wardrobe.
From: http://living-learning-eating.blogspot.com/2012/07/30-day-blog-challenge-day-1.html

So this is probably one of the hardest posts in this challenge so I’m glad it’s first. You see, I live in an apartment about an hour and a half from the house in which I grew up. When I moved out, I intentionally didn’t bring clothes that I didn’t wear on the regular. Therefore, all of my embarrassing clothing are back home.

So I’m kind of making a compromise. Rather than an embarrassing piece of clothing, I guess I’ll post something about my wardrobe that I’m kinda embarrassed about and that is the sheer number of clothes I own with my university on them.

Image

That is 9 different tshirts. This does not include the two pairs of sweatpants and two hoodies I have that also represent my university. Plus the sticker on my car, the coffee cup in my cabinet, and the tumbler sitting next to me currently. I think I might have a problem.

Actually, my parents have the problem. They’re the ones who bought all of this for me, except the coffee cup which was a gift from Kristi.

But yeah, that’s my kind of embarrassing clothing choices, c/o my college closet. If I was at home, I could definitely come up with a better answer but for now, that’s the best I’ve got. Clearly, I need less tshirts in my life, especially since I hardly wear them.

Do it yourself: 30-day blogging challenge.

I mentioned in my intro post that I basically started blogging because of Kristi and Maggie. Well, we also started attempted the Zero-to-Hero challenge and got bored pretty quickly. I mean, come on, you saw how I was having to configure the daily tasks to be even borderline interesting.

Anyways, since we were struggling so much with this challenge, Maggie had the brilliant idea to create our own! We each come up with ten topics to make a total of 30. Five were adaptations of ideas we found on other sites (and are linked in the post) and five were made up by our own, crazy brains.

We’re officially starting this tomorrow (January 6) but we thought we’d share the topics so anyone who’s interested can join us! Just let us know you’re following along and we’ll gladly follow along!

So, here it is: Our 30-Day Blog Challenge!
